Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV)

The HSE law says if you have Local Exhaust Ventilation installed it must ‘have a periodic thorough examination and test.’

Some systems require inspections done at smaller intervals, such as processes,  in which metal articles (other than gold, platinum or iridium) are ground, abraded or polished or Processes giving off dust or fume in which non-ferrous metal castings are produced which both require 6 monthly inspections.

Processes in which blasting is carried out in or incidental to the cleaning of metal castings in connection with their manufacture which require inspections every month.

The team at Black Country Safety Inspections are competent to conduct Thorough Examination and Testing of Local Exhaust Ventilation Systems (BOHS P601),  and have experience of all varieties of LEV systems. These systems can include;

• Paint line exhaust ventilation
• Cooker/Hob extraction units in schools/catering

To control hazardous substances, Local Exhaust Ventilation is used. This ensures the exposure of the hazardous substance to the persons conducting the process is As low as reasonably practicable following guidance from the HSE. PPE should be the last step of protection (Hierarchy of control).
